Paint.NET is freeware raster graphics editor program belonging to the Microsoft Windows, developed.NET Framework. Paint.NET was originally created by Rick Brewster as Washington State University student project, and has evolved from a simple replacement for Microsoft Paint program to a powerful editor with support for layers, blending, transparency, and plugins.
Paint.NET originated as a computer science senior design project during the spring of 2004 at Washington State University. Version 1.0 consists of 36,000 lines of code and is written in fifteen weeks. Conversely, 3:35 version has about 162,000 lines of code. Paint.NET project continued throughout the summer and into the fall semester2.004 for both versions 1.1 and 2.0 releases.
Development continues with a developer who now works at Microsoft and worked on previous versions of Paint.NET when he was a student at WSU. In May 2006 the program has been downloaded at least 2 million times, with a rate of about 180,000 per month.
